Salmon River Estuary
Location: Salmon River Estuary, Oregon
Date: January 2, 2006
Participants: Don Beale, Bob Brevoort
Bob Brevoort and I went to see the surf, and the river at near flood stage. No surf pictures, but the river at flood made some nice pictures

Normally
this is all grassland.

Here,
where the river is usually about 100' wide, it covers the entire lowlands.
That's Bob, paddling away as I took pictures. Cascade Head is in the
background.

I'm
no ornithologist - but on the little bird card I have this looks a lot
like a sanderling. I was quite close when I took the picture, and it
flew off as soon as I took it.

We
had joked about paddling the boats right onto the roof racks of the
trucks. The water didn't quite get that high - but we were able to paddle
right into the parking lot.
