This maple handle is from a King Island single-blade paddle, number 135.3. The .3 indicates the number of modifications that the paddle underwent as the owner became more proficient and wanted different changes. The change to a "T" handle was the final modification. |

Solid Western Red Cedar varies in color from dark brown to nearly white. This is a medium color. |

Dyed paddles. The red is a deep maroon color called Blood Red. The blue is really a blue-green color. Both are dyed cedar and coated with epoxy before oiling. |
Paddle #226 was for Freya Hoffmeister. It started out looking like most other paddles. "It must be black" she says.... |

Paddle #226 after staining. It's proved to be popular. I used a black water-based dye and carbon-colored epoxy. It often takes a few extra coats to get it looking nice, and this can add to the lead time. |
