About the Paddles
![]() |
One of the most defining elements of Greenland Traditional Style Paddling is the narrow bladed paddle. Inuit paddles were developed over thousands of years of use by cultures that depended on their paddle and kayak for hunting, travel and survival. Today, more and more kayakers are re-discovering the benefits of using a West Greenland style paddle. The long and slender blades provide excellent lift while sculling and bracing. The Greenland Style Paddle is easier on joints and muscles with extended use. The symmetrical non-feathered blades make indexing for a roll setup a thing of the past, and they reduce wrist fatigue from feathering. The versatility of its use is second to none. |
Regardless of whether it's laminated or solid, each has its own unique feel and cadence. The solid paddle is carved from one solid piece of western red cedar, hand selected for its beauty and its grain orientation. Each Solid Paddle has many different characteristics. As no wood is the same, no paddle is the same. Beale Paddles is not a mechanized production oriented business. It is a one man wood shop run by Don Beale himself. Custom sizing is standard, and your satisfaction is guaranteed.
