Paddle Carving Classes

Don holds periodic paddle carving classes. In a typical class, students will carve and finish a pre-selected and roughed-out blank in a single day.

The next paddle carving class will be held at SSTIKS on June 18th, 2010. To register, click here.

Shown here are tools that you could bring if you have them - but there will be tools for loan as well. Most of the work will be done with a block plane. On the left of the picture are three good examples. Top to bottom a Veritas low angle block plane, a Veritas Apron plane, and a Stanley #220. A spokeshave is another good carving tool, shown here is a Veritas low angle spokeshave. Other tools that come in very handy are a 3' straightedge, a 6" C- Clamp, and a combination square. If you have a plane, and/or any of the marking/measuring tools, please bring them. And if not, no worries - there will be tools to loan. Please don't buy tools just for the class.
