Trip Name
Location: Cathlamet / Nassa Point, WA
Date: December 3, 2006.
Participants: Joanne, Bob, Fred, Don (Trip leads); Dave, Kevin, Diane, Allan, Debbie, Bruce, Terry.
We launched and crossed to the downstream entrance to Bernie Slough, and rode the flooding current up to its upper end. When we got there we looked for a lunch stop but found none. So we crossed over to the WA side, above Nassa Point, and went downstream until we found a marginal spot on Nassa Point. After lunch we stuck to the WA side, there are 5 waterfalls along there to stop and see. The group got spread out, all the leaders were in the back stopping to look at the falls and take pictures. Bob went ahead to catch the group, and Fred, Allan Joanne, Diane, and I took pictures. When we got to the last two falls, we were able to paddle underneath them. One – the second one upstream from Cathlamet – had too much flow to go under, the wind would blow us out. The last one, the falls nearest to Cathlamet, was nice to paddle under. And the water was clean! We then caught up to the group, who had drifted downstream. Returning to Cathlamet we went past all the tug boats.
